Mary Killian / The Roustabout Heart: Adventures in Recovery
I have dreams now. And although not crystal clear by definition, they are real.
These images are not the same as the vague, misguided notions that once skittered across the surface of my drunken thoughts, provoking me to tears and angry outbursts, forgotten in the morning.
My dreams are located safely in my heart. I refer to them all the time. They have substance and add value to my life. They direct me toward my goals. I feel smart knowing I've chosen theses ambitions for myself.
I am no longer afraid of or intimidated by my great ideas.
About the Author
Mary Killian
Mary is and alcoholic in long-term recovery. She says of her writing, "So many of the stories I'm ever gonna tell have already gone down. At this point, I'm just going through the trash and rinsing them off. I pray for the courage to write about things that make me uncomfortable, without attempting to adjust what happened so I look better. And without being mean."
Mary has just published her first book, The Roustabout Heart: Adventures in Recovery. You can read her short piece, Le Bête Noir, here on The Recovery Revolution and you can read more from Mary on her blog, High Wire Girl.
